A night to remember

Last night, on a hotel TV far far away, there was a movie I hadn’t seen for many years: “A night to remember” - a 1958 movie about the sinking of the Titanic. If you haven’t seen this movie at all, or a long time ago, I think it’ll be well worth the time seeing it again.†

I must say, the quality of the movie is actually quite impressive. After all, remember that this is a film from 1958! There are also a lot of scenes in this original film that is more or less copied over to the 1997 blockbuster "Titanic”. Clearly, James Cameron has also seen this film.†

What is so captivating about the Titanic? Perhaps it’s the fact that we can see all the good in people, and also people from their very worst sides. Perhaps it’s because we can see a micro-cosmos of society - trapped on a big ship? Personally, I think it’s both those reasons and because I can identify with the ship’s main activity - a large passenger ship. It fascinates me to think about the life of a navigator or the life of a Captain on a passenger ship back in 1912.†
