AN-124 taking off

Together with perhaps as many as one hundred other plane-spotters today, Monday 26th January 2015, I witnessed the rare take off by an ANTONOV 124-100-150 from Værnes Airport, outside Trondheim, Norway. The aircraft was scheduled to take off at 13:20 hours but for some reason got slightly delayed. With an ice-cold wind and temperature just above freezing, it was a long wait. Eventually, at around 14:00 hours, the giant aircraft raised it’s nose and started climbing skywards to the sound of her powerful engines and all the photographers. Personally, I was thrilled to having had the chance to witness such an amazing aircraft. It was also far bigger than I had anticipated.
