The Boat Lady of Bangkok

Here is a video I really want to share with all of you. For those in the hurry, don’t you worry, it’s less than three minutes long, and well worth the watch in case you are interested in the real Thailand and genuine Thai personalities.†

The video is shared through vimeo.com and uploaded by a user called Benjamin Parrot. This is what the producer says about the film on vimeo:†

At the age of 13, Samruay Imkrajai worked her first job in a factory in Ayuthaya, outside of Bangkok. Two years later she had gathered enough money to buy a small long tail boat (hang yao) and moved to Bangkok to work on the Chao Phraya river as a taxi boat.

20 years later, she still drives this same boat and lives on a boat house that she built with her husband who recently passed away.

Filmed and edited by Benjamin Parrot. Interview, translation and subtitles by Rapeepat Jumnongjit

Shot with a 5DmkIII with an EF 70-200 F2.8 II and EF 17-40 F4.0 lenses

Edited in fcpx and colors with Davinci Resolve (beginner in color grading, so critics are very welcomed)

The film was also awarded with a price as a winner in the Vimeo Weekend Challenge.†
