The empty plot of land riverside

Back in the days when I was working in Bangkok as a Public Rrelations Manager for the country’s largest real estate company, I would pay so much attention to all empty plots of land throughout Bangkok. Even today, after many years, I guess I’m still doing that even though I have nothing to do with any redevelopment any longer. Despite now living on the other side of the earth, and finding it hard to keep a tab on absolutely everything, I’m still extremely interested in all changes and new building-projects in Bangkok.

Back in July of 2013, when I went to the excellent Millenium Hilton 360 rooftop bar, I became aware of an empty plot next to the river, on the soutside of the hotel. As you can see in the second image, the land is quite large. It was not being developed at the time, but had been cleared for vegetation and drive ways had been made. Now, almost 3 years later, there is finally some news on this particular land. According to a recent advertisement in Bangkok Post, the land is to be redeveloped into a project by the name of “The Residences at Mandarin Oriental”….

I’m not surprised at all - no empty land will remain undeveloped, as long as a price for the purchase of the land can be agreed upon.†
